The process is straightforward: Join the IMA as a student or professional, enrol in the CMA program and pay the entrance fee, register and pay for Part 1 and Part 2 exams separately, clear both parts within the 3-year window, and complete 2 years of relevant work experience before or after passing the exams.
Yes. You do not need mandatory articleship or study leave to pursue the US CMA. Exams are conducted three times a year in the January-February, May-June, and September-October windows. With around 10 to 15 hours of study per week, many working professionals can prepare for both parts within 9 to 12 months.
Yes. You need 2 years of relevant work experience to receive the CMA certification, but this experience is not required to appear for the exams. Eligible experience can include full-time work in management accounting or financial management. Part-time experience may also qualify, subject to IMA requirements.
No. You can complete the entire US CMA journey from India, including registration, exam preparation, exams, experience verification, and certification. Exams are conducted at Prometric test centers across major Indian cities.
US CMA and CMA India are offered by different professional bodies. The US CMA is awarded by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), USA, and has global recognition. It focuses primarily on management accounting, financial planning, analysis, performance management, and strategic decision-making.
CMA India is offered by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) and has a stronger focus on cost and management accounting within the Indian professional ecosystem.
